It promotes African Arts, music and cultures in Australia. This unique one-day cultural event is held annually in March and provides an opportunity for those who have migrated to Australia from Africa countries, to share and celebrate aspects of their cultural heritage and traditions. This stall will provide festival programs as well as general information about the activities at the Festival. The Africultures Festival Stall will be attended throughout the day by Cheryl Webster and others volunteers.[/vc_column_text][vc_text_separator title="Lost Property" title_align="separator_align_left"][vc_column_text]Lost property should be handed into the Information Stall and recorded. The Centre will operate from 6.00am – 6.30pm. Any volunteers who locate lost property must complete the Lost Property Log Sheet upon submitting the property to the Information Stall.[/vc_column_text][vc_text_separator title="Waste Management" title_align="separator_align_left"][vc_column_text]General waste bins and recycle bins will be provided throughout the festival site. Bins will also be placed within the market stalls area and food stalls areas relative to needs in those areas. Council staff will be constantly rotating these bins throughout the day, emptying full bins into compactor trucks that will be positioned near to the Festival site. Council staff will be deployed to clean the grounds throughout the day. Remember to maintain a positive upbeat attitude helping contribute to the friendly festival atmosphere that we all know and love.
  • Working as a volunteer for the festival in a customer service position means you may have to deal with emergencies and incidents, to handle complaints and deal with people who are stressed and upset.
  • Remember it’s not you personally that’s the problem…it’s the problem itself!

  • Try to find a solution to the problem
  • Seek assistance from your Coordinator or Shift Manager

  • Personal Safety – Please be aware of your surrounding at all times. Take care when traveling to and from your volunteer shifts allowing plenty of additional time.
  • Fatigue – People make mistakes and have accidents when they are tired. Make sure you get enough rest and if you feel fatigue taking over then talk to your Coordinator or Shift Manager.
  • Make sure you vary your tasks and take regular breaks.
  • Late Shifts – Volunteer teams operate into the early hours of the morning. Please take this into consideration when arranging travel to and from your volunteer shifts. If you have a concern when exiting late night please see security at an entrance gate or contact the Duty Manager.
  • Stress – all work involves some responsibilities, problems, expectations and pressures.
  • Stress is a person’s reaction to these demands. If you feel as if you can’t cope please talk to your Coordinator or Shift Manager.
  • Bullying – bullying is repeated unreasonable behaviour directed towards a worker or a group of workers that has the potential
